A retired drummer has laid the bedrock for the next generation of musicians by donating hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.

Jack Dillon has offered a full drum kit to Joriko Swan, aged nine, who has been studying percussion at The Rhythm Lab in St George’s.

He also offered a new set of drumsticks to the Harrington Sound Primary School’s drum club.

Mr Dillon further donated new phones to Harrington Sound Primary drum club members Treshon Gordon and Leo Daniels.

Eddie Ming, who runs both percussion groups, said: “Everybody thanks Mr Dillon and we are excited that he chose us.

“He could’ve gone with anybody, so we thank him for choosing us.”

Mr Ming said that Mr Dillon, who runs the hot food station at Lindo’s grocery store in Devonshire, has made plenty of donations to young musicians in the past.

He explained that drum equipment was expensive, with some kits costing as much as $5,000.

Mr Ming added that Mr Dillon particularly wanted to help Joriko after hearing about his “promising” music talents.

He said: “He’s a beautiful drummer, and he’s doing very well. He’s on top of the world.

“Seeing a little kid like that get his own set is beautiful, and I really can’t thank Jack Dillon enough.“
