Aspiring doctor and valedictorian wins scholarship
A dual enrolment valedictorian has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship to pursue studies in medicine.
Fabiola Adams, a 2024 graduate of CedarBridge Academy who earned an associate’s degree in science from Bermuda College while also attending high school, received the support from Northshore Medical & Aesthetics Centre.
NMAC provides scholarships and awards to Bermudian students annually to study medicine at the higher education level.
Ms Adams will attend Howard University in Washington DC.
She will study for a bachelor’s degree in chemistry before pursuing a medical career in which she plans to become a neonatologist.
Kyjuan Brown, the founder of NMAC, said: “It is a great honour to support the next generation of medical professionals.”
Dr Brown, a board member of CedarBridge Academy and the first graduate of the school to pursue a career in medicine, said Ms Adams demonstrated exceptional dedication and academic excellence.
He added: “I am confident that she will make significant contributions to the medical field.
“As an alumnus of CedarBridge Academy, I am thrilled to acknowledge this history-making event.”
NMAC said Ms Adams was a “student of excellence” who gained top honours over the course of her school life.
In 2020, after she graduated from Dellwood Middle School, she won several subject prizes and awards including the Principal’s Cup.
Ms Adams was head girl for the 2019-20 academic year when she was in M3 and was involved in the dual-enrolment programme for mathematics at The Berkeley Institute.
In March, she was one of four dual-enrolment students from Bermuda College who were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honour Society.
Ms Adams, who was president of the cohort, said she always strived to attain academic excellence.
She added then: “As president of Phi Theta Kappa Honour Society, I am allowed to not only be involved in a Bermuda College organisation, but to continue to enhance my leadership skills.”
Beyond the classroom, Ms Adams has been involved in extracurricular activities, including netball and volleyball.
The former president of the Bermuda Junior Toastmasters community gavel club plays hockey for Raven’s Field Hockey team.
