BCCL students reunite for another academic year

A great day: students of the Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning enjoy a morning yoga session at Victoria Park after their return to school (Photograph supplied)

The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning in Hamilton was excited to welcome its students back to the classroom yesterday.

Jane Vickers, advancement and communications director for BCCL, a school for children with specialised learning needs, said: “The excitement and chatter as the students greeted each other bubbled over as they talked about their summer camps and holidays.

“The returning and new students spent the day talking about the expectations for the year and, most importantly, developing a relationship between the students and teachers.

“With each expectation, social and emotional wellbeing was practised, talking about what the expectations look like, sound like and feel like.”

Cindy Corday, head of school, added: “Kids can’t learn until they feel accepted. Children all want the same thing. Friends, have fun and, most importantly, they want to feel like their teacher cares about them.”

A family member of a new BCCL student said: “Among the many enthusiastic comments from our child about the first day at BCCL, the one I appreciate the most was ‘it was such a great day because the teachers help you when you ask for help’.”
