‘Berkeleyites’ invited to 127th anniversary celebration
The Berkeley Institute will celebrate its 127th anniversary with a special ceremony tomorrow.
The Berkeley Educational Society invited all former students and friends of the school to the annual Opening Ceremony celebration in the school’s lower atrium from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Anika DeShields, the Berkeley Educational Society’s chairwoman, said: “The Berkeley Institute first opened its doors on September 6, 1897 to 12 students.
“Over the past 127 years, The Berkeley Institute has provided high-class, world competitive, education to thousands of Bermudians, regardless of race, gender or religious belief.
“These Berkeleyites have gone on to become leaders, shaping their communities locally and globally.
“Every year, we acknowledge the anniversary of the opening of our illustrious institution, celebrating our school and the legacy that for ever lives with all Berkeleyites.”
Attendees were invited to meet at the school grounds for the start of the opening ceremony. Admission is free.
A spokeswoman for the school added: “Berkeleyites are also encouraged to dress in their best version of the Berkeley uniform, take a photo, tag and share with The Berkeley Institute Instagram page.
“The photo with the most ‘likes’ will win a prize, one from green house, one from gold house. Make sure you mention your house and year to participate.”
