Warwick Academy celebrates high-flying IB, IGCSE results
Graduates of Bermuda’s oldest private school were lauded this week for completely passing their International Baccalaureate exams.
Warwick Academy’s class of 2024 received the results for their IB exams and saw a 100 per cent pass rate — 20 per cent more than the global average.
Dave Horan, the principal of Warwick Academy, offered his “sincere congratulations” to graduates for their hard work over the past two years.
He added: “We are very pleased with the overall outcome, and I am deeply proud of every one of them and greatly respect what they have achieved.”
Mr Horan was speaking as the school released the results of their students' IB, IGCSE and Business and Technology Education Council exam results.
The average IB score for the cohort was 34.42 points out of 45.
Daria Desmond and Matthew Banner scored the most points with 43.
Daria will go on to study business at The Wharton School in Pennsylvania.
Matthew will study law at the University of Bristol in England.
Sanaa Simmons had the second-highest score with 42 points and will study medicine at the University of Liverpool in England.
Adriana Argent received 41 points and will study health sciences and business at the Ivey Business School the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
Maile Dalene scored 39 points and will go on to study economics and politics at the University of Bath in England.
Cody Rans received 38 points and will be studying finance at the University of Exeter in England.
Grace Flannery, Amelie Fournier and Eva O'Connor all received 36 points and plan to study in England.
Grace will study art at the University of Art in London, while Amelie will study engineering at the University of York.
Eva will study art history at the University College of London.
Zachary da Silva, Sergio de Frias, Isabella Howes and Samara Darrell all received 35 points in their exams.
Zachary will study business management and organisational studies at the University of Western Ontario, while Sergio will study geography at the University of Leeds in England.
Isabella will study general sciences and business at Ivey Business School and Samara will study maths and actuarial science at the University of Leicester in England.
Warwick Academy saw 84 per cent of year 11 students receive at least a C grade or a score of four out of nine in their IGCSE exams.
These scores ranked higher than the UK’s national average, where 68 per cent of students received grades at C/4 or above.
Warwick Academy students also had 38 per cent of its cohort’s grades reach A* or A, or a score of seven, eight or nine.
These beat the UK average by a long shot, with only 21 per cent of the national score being an A* or A grade or a score of seven, eight or nine.
The students who scored five or more A* and 8/9 grades were Andrew Mao, Zachary Johnson, Ailie Waddington, Ben Greenway, Oscar Regan, Jorgia White, Chloé Samuels and Billie Rose Kempe.
All students participating in the IB Individual Subjects pathway also saw a 100 per cent pass rate, with the average score being 25.
Adrianna Stubbs had the highest score at 36 points and will study business at the University of Bristol.
Luke Foster had the second-highest score with 35 points and will go on to study zoology at the University of Leeds.
Bridget Repose had 30 points and will study business management at Essex University in England.
Brooke Repose and Jack Kyme both scored 29 points and will study in England.
Brooke will study psychology at Oxford Brookes University, while Jack will study mechanical engineering at the University of Portsmouth.
Charlie Calveley and Alexander Luckham were awarded the IB Career-Related Diploma and both received their BTEC business diplomas with merit.
Charlie will study business management at Leeds Trinity University in England.
Alexander will study music industry management at Leeds Beckett University, also in England.
Anisa Walker received her BTEC diploma with distinction and will study liberal arts at Dalhousie University in Canada.
Elyjah Madeiros received his BTEC diploma with merit and will study business at Wilfred Laurier University in Canada.
Imara Richardson and Tyler James were also celebrated as Bermuda College/Warwick Academy dual enrolment graduates.
Imara will study economics at York University in England.
Tyler intends to take a gap year.
Mr Horan emphasised that the cohorts' achievements went further than their exam results.
He said: “It's very easy to focus on statistics when we make this announcement.
“However, we must recognise that, while these are important, they often hide the real achievement and fundamental value of what our graduates have been doing.
“This would include the significant contributions to sports, music, drama, community service, clubs, leadership posts and other initiatives, whilst making sure their academics were in the right place. These are great students who will do wonderful things.“
