School to put best foot forward to raise funds
A Somersfield Academy teacher and former student has organised a fun run and walk to raise money for the school’s bursary fund.
David Lunn, a physical education teacher at the school, will host the five-kilometre event at the end of this month.
The walk will take place around the grounds, offering participants a scenic route that encourages fitness and community spirit.
It has been designed as a family-friendly event and will welcome runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.
The fund provides financial assistance to students who demonstrate academic potential and a commitment to the values of the school but may not have the financial means to attend.
Mr Lunn said: "Somersfield Academy has been a significant part of my life, and I’m happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the bursary fund.
“This fund is crucial in ensuring that deserving students have access to the quality education that Somersfield offers, regardless of their financial situation.”
Riki Teteina, Somersfield’s head of school, said: “David’s initiative is a wonderful example of the values we instil in our students — leadership, compassion and community service.
“We are incredibly proud of David’s efforts and look forward to a successful event that will have a lasting impact on our students and their futures.”
The run will be held from 8.30am on September 29. Entry is $15 for children and $30 for adults. Visit www.racedayworld.com to register by September 28.
