Close to half of BHS pupils earn high-level I/GCSE grades
Almost half of the I/GCSE students at Bermuda High School scored highly in their exams in comparison with British standards.
BHS announced in the results of its 2023-2024 cohort that 49 per cent of all I/GCSE students achieved grades ranging from A* to A- or Level 9 to 7.
The results are well above the 21.7 per cent achieved by all students in Britain, according to the Joint Council for Qualifications.
Two students, Alyssa Mnushkin and Scarlett Smale, achieved a full slate of A grades. Other high-scoring students include Rayna Abbott, Annabelle Davidson and Robin Selley.
There was no grade less than a 5 in biology, chemistry or physics, which the school described as “an incredible achievement”.
Students of economics did not receive a grade less than a B.
All 26 students in Year 11 achieved a 4 or above in their English literature and language and maths GCSEs.
BHS announced that through an “exceptional opportunity”, a Year 9 student was able to write her GCSE French (usually written in Year 11) and achieved a Level 9, a top-level result.
Carol Swainson, the head of school, said: “We commend our Year 11 students on their fabulous I/GCSE results.
“Their tremendous efforts, with the support of their dedicated teachers, made these outstanding results possible. We are very proud of their accomplishments.”
