Bermudian students in UK invited to networking event
Bermudian students and recent graduates resident in Britain have been invited to attend a networking event in London to discuss opportunities and experiences.
The gathering will feature Kristy Warren, a Bermudian and a senior lecturer in Black History at the University of Lincoln.
A government spokesman said that the event will provide Bermudians active in the field in Britain a chance to engage with their peers and discuss past experiences, continuing projects and possible paths for future careers.
Dr Warren researches the sociopolitical history of British colonialism and its afterlives in Bermuda, the Caribbean and Britain.
Her most recent research project was entitled Seeking Charles Wotten: Before the Liverpool ‘Race Riots’ of 1919.
Dr Warren works with cultural institutions to help create content and programming that better reflect the histories, experiences and desires of marginalised groups in Britain.
She has worked on a number of research projects including Legacies of British Slave Ownership and MSN in Guyana’s Jails.
The event will be held on October 11 from 4pm at a venue in Central London.
Kimberley Durrant, of the Government’s London Office, said: “The London Office is proud to provide support to Bermudian students overseas who have an ambition to learn more about Bermuda’s history.
“The work of Dr Kristy Warren is inspirational to us all and speaks to the importance of Bermuda’s historical impact while highlighting the strength of our diaspora in the UK.”
Anyone who would like to attend the event should register by October 4 at bdalondonoffice.co.uk where they can click on “Register with us” under the “Bermudians in the UK” tab.
Invitations will be sent out by e-mail to those who sign up.
