Bermuda College is inviting residents to take a step into the future by attending a quickfire course on the applications of artificial intelligence.

The college will be running a five-week programme starting next month, teaching adult students how the latest technology can be applied to all manner of jobs.

The course is being run in conjunction with the Bermuda Clarity Institute, a boutique leadership and management coaching company set up three years ago.

Stuart Lacey, the founder and director of the BCI, accepted that some people had reservations about the technology, but insisted that it had many applications and needed to be embraced.

He said: “It’s not just for the reinsurance and fintech industries — it’s for every sector of Bermuda.

“The business applications are ubiquitous. You need to think about the augmented ways that AI is going to make your life easier — not necessarily to replace your job but to make the hard, tedious, painful stuff significantly easier.

”This is the largest job opportunity we have ever seen — certainly one of the biggest ones for Bermuda.“

The college will be hosting an introductory seminar at 5.30pm today for those interested in taking the course, which starts on October 8 and runs for one evening a week for five weeks.

Mr Lacey said: “You can actually become highly proficient in AI in 15 hours of work, and certified to do so. AI can be learnt in a very short focused space of time. ”

Mr Lacey likened the AI industry as a fast-moving train pulling out of a station — and that Bermuda needed to get on board.

“The later you leave it, the harder it is get on,” he said.

“There is an imperative right now that individuals need to get on the train.“
