Somersfield welcomes three new directors

Somersfield Academy has appointed three community leaders to its board of directors.

Myles Darrell, Murricea Iris and Darrien Ray will “strengthen the school’s commitment to academic excellence, environmental stewardship, diversity and student wellness”.

Confirming the appointments today, Dennis Fagundo, the chairman of the school’s board, said: “Each of them brings an exceptional perspective and expertise that will be invaluable as we continue to build a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

“Their commitment to our values will only deepen our school’s dedication to the social responsibility and resilience in our students.”

Mr Darrell, who is the head of natural heritage at the Bermuda National Trust, said he hoped to inspire a love of nature in future generations.

“As part of Somersfield’s board, I am excited to support initiatives that encourage our students to understand, respect and care for the unique environment that surrounds us here in Bermuda,” he said.

Ms Iris, a senior officer at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, described the school as “a place where every student is encouraged to grow into a socially conscious, independent thinker”.

She said: “I am honoured to join the board and to work with this incredible team to further strengthen our school’s commitment to inclusion and excellence.”

Dr Ray, a registered clinical psychologist, said: “Somersfield Academy’s holistic approach to education resonates deeply with me.

“I am eager to contribute to an environment that values each child’s wellbeing and promotes their social and emotional growth alongside academic success.”

The appointments were backed by the school’s head, Riki Teteina, who said: “We are excited to see the energy and insight that Myles, Murricea and Darrien bring to our board.

”Their diverse experiences align beautifully with our mission, and their commitment to education, community and wellbeing will be a great asset to our students, faculty and families.”
