Berkeley launches 127-hour giving campaign

The Berkeley Institute has taken its 127th anniversary as a creative opportunity to fundraise for a good cause.

Its Giving Tuesday campaign aims to raise $12,700 in 127 hours, according to Stephanie Lee, the school’s development and communications officer.

She explained: “Funds raised will go towards various initiatives and programmes within the school that provide enhanced educational experiences and student services support programmes.

“Some of the experiences include off-campus field trips, overseas educational tours, college and university tours and co-curricular activities.

“We also recognise the extremely important work of our student services department, who provide not only academic and behavioural support for our students, but also offer programmes that support students’ wellbeing and daily living.

“These include a breakfast programme, lunch vouchers and gently used uniforms.”

Berkeley raised $9,155 of a $12,600 target during its first Giving Tuesday initiative last year.

Ms Lee asked donors to give funds that include the figures of 1, 2 or 7 — $12.70 or $1,270, for example — but all donations, including corporate matching, will be welcomed.

Craig Bridgewater, chairman of the Berkeley Board of Governors, said: “As an aided school in the Bermuda public school system, to continue to provide the standard of excellence alumni and current and future students have come to expect, additional funds are required to provide those supplementary value-added benefits to our students and faculty.”
