Salons sign up to offer students hands-on experience
The Ministry of Education has joined forces with two beauty salons to bolster its signature learning programmes.
A ministry spokeswoman said that the Education Reform Unit signed learning partnership agreements with both Allure Hair Salon and Impressions Hair Artistry and Beauty Supply, which will create opportunities for students.
“Signature learning equips students with vital skills for further education, workforce readiness and excellence in their chosen pathways,” the spokeswoman said.
“Signature learning partnerships deliver authentic, real-world learning experiences that young Bermudians need to build knowledge and skills.
“Both salons will actively engage students with hands-on projects and experiences in the cosmetology signature strand.”
As part of the agreement, both salons will open their doors to students and provide on-site sessions.
The partnerships are intended to expose students to careers and professional services in the cosmetology business, create opportunities for skill development and increase awareness of the applications of biology and chemistry in cosmetology.
Vivian Millings, the owner of Impressions, said: “We believe in nurturing the next generation of cosmetology professionals.
“Our commitment to investing in young people and their passion for the industry drives us to provide unparalleled support, training and opportunities for aspiring artists.”
Tasha DeVent, the owner of Allure Hair Salon, added: “The children are the future, so it's important that we invest in them early.
“It takes a village, and I'm grateful that Allure gets to be a part of Bermuda's future.”
Crystal Caesar, the Acting Minister of Education, said that the partnerships would give students valuable hands-on experiences in both the creative and business sides of the salon and retail management.
“This initiative not only cultivates practical skills but also empowers students with entrepreneurial knowledge, inspiring them to lead and innovate in their future careers,” she added.
A representative of the Education Reform Unit said the group was eager to create new partnerships to help contribute to the signature learning programmes.
