A school for children with diverse learning needs is to launch a reception year with an internationally recognised curriculum.

The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning will introduce its early years education programme from September. It will accept four-year-olds into “a nurturing and dynamic learning environment, setting the foundation for lifelong success”.

The programme is designed to give young learners a head start and will accommodate up to 12 students. The small class sizes will allow staff to focus on individuals.

BCCL will implement the International Early Years Curriculum, which aims to foster creativity, inquiry-based learning and social and emotional development.

It is open to all students and not exclusive to those with learning differences.

However, for children who may later be identified with learning differences, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder or ADHD, early enrolment at BCCL aims to offer a supportive and personalised learning environment.

Cindy Corday, the head of school, said: “Early years education plays a critical role in shaping a child's future academic success.

“Research consistently shows that high-quality early learning experiences contribute to stronger cognitive and social development.

“We are thrilled to expand our offerings to include reception year, ensuring that more children in Bermuda can benefit from an engaging and student-centred learning approach.”

BCCL was established in 2015. It specialises in providing personalised learning for students with learning differences.

The charity said that the addition of the reception-year programme aligned with its mission to “empower students through innovative and flexible learning experiences”.

The programme will have two dedicated teachers.
