Buzz surrounds spelling bee final
The final of the Verbal Victory Bermuda Spelling Bee will be held today at The Berkeley Institute.
The competition is open to public, private and home-schooled children aged from 9 to 13.
Preparations began in October, when schools were given a list of words for pupils to learn
Retired Puisne Judge Norma Wade-Miller, the chairwoman of the contest’s trustees, said: “Words cannot actually capture how immensely proud we are of all students who participated in Bermuda spelling bee.
“Although only one champion will be chosen, all are winners.”
Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, and Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education, will attend today to present the trophy and other prizes to the winners.

A spokesman for the spelling bee said: “The trustees of Verbal Victory Bermuda Spelling Bee thank all participants, their families, coaches and supporters for believing in Bermuda’s young people and for supporting them so generously in their efforts.
“The trustees also thank the Spelling Bee’s sponsors, particularly gold sponsor The Royal Gazette, silver sponsor Contemporary OB/GYN, bronze sponsors Conyers, Allied World and Trott and Duncan, and other sponsors for their contribution to the success of the spelling bee.”
The event is by invitation only, with schools allocated a limited number of tickets for distribution to participating students’ families and friends.
