BCCL partners with top US online high school
The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning has partnered with a top-performing US high school as part of a plan to expand the local organisation’s secondary-level programme.
BCCL, which provides education for students with diverse learning abilities, is joining with the Christa McAuliffe Academy School of Arts and Sciences, a Western Association of Schools and Colleges-accredited, private K-12 online school, which claims to be one of the top 10 private online high schools in America.
The collaboration marks BCCL’s commitment to expanding personalised education by offering the secondary-school programme for Year 10 to 13 students in Bermuda with access to a US high school diploma with CMASAS’s accredited curriculum.
Under the agreement, CMASAS will deliver its “high-quality, asynchronous broad course content” and provide support from CMASAS course instructors.
The programme was designed for students who thrive with individualised learning, want to explore unique educational pathways or require a more adaptable high school experience.
BCCL said it is ideal for students looking for flexible learning or who have other interests such as sports, music or drama.
Christopher Geis, the executive director of CMASAS, said: "We are thrilled to partner with BCCL, a forward-thinking organisation that shares our commitment to personalised, student-centred learning.
“By bringing our WASC-accredited curriculum to students in Bermuda through BCCL, we are providing them with the tools and support they need to achieve their academic goals and pursue a globally recognised diploma.
“This partnership is a testament to our 16 years of dedication to making high-quality education accessible to students worldwide."
Cindy Corday, the head of school, added: "Our mission at BCCL is to provide students in Bermuda with access to a world-class education that prepares them for success in a globalised world.
“Partnering with CMASAS allows us to offer our students a valuable pathway to earning a US high school diploma, while benefiting from the flexibility and personalisation that CMASAS is known for.
“We look forward to growing together and providing exceptional educational opportunities for our students."
Several Bermudians have been enrolled in CMASAS over the years including Huw Swift, who graduated last year.
He said: "I really liked the style of learning. The teachers were very helpful and accommodating. They offered lots of different options and you can customise your curriculum to your liking."
Arden Vickers, from the class of 2016, said: "CMASAS was an excellent option for me as the traditional UK curriculum style didn't suit me.
“The diverse courses and the flexibility allowed me to do school in the morning and ride in the afternoon.
“After graduation, I attended Fanshawe College in Canada and University of Brighton in England, and the CMASAS diploma was accepted and recognised in both countries."
