Students tackle AI during UN conference

Delving into AI: Bermuda High School students in New York (Photograph supplied)

Year 12 students at the Bermuda High School for Girls debated and learnt more about artificial intelligence during a conference in New York this week.

A spokesman said 12 students took part in the annual United Nations International School conference, in which BHS has participated for the past 15 years.

More than 3,000 students from around the world took part in this year’s conference, “Beyond the Algorithm: Navigating the Future of Artificial Intelligence”, at the UN Headquarters from Monday to Wednesday

The spokesman explained: “This year’s theme of artificial intelligence is of great interest to our older students and connects strongly with all their subjects, whether that be A levels or IB.”

Annabelle Davidson, a member of the BHS debate team, successfully argued that AI would not bridge the gap between developed and developing countries, while other students attended expert-led panels.

Attendees shared Bermudian life and culture with other students, and learnt more about the UN along with exploring New York during their trip.
