Potable water malfunction forces school closure

The Berkeley Institute has been closed temporarily for the day after a failure in its water system.

The Ministry of Education issued a statement explaining that the problem arose late last evening and, despite the efforts of the maintenance team to resolve the issue, repairs were not completed in time to safely open the building today.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said: “The Berkeley Institute has shifted to remote learning for the day.

“Teachers will send assignments via e-mail and will arrange Zoom sessions with students as necessary.

“A school-wide Zoom assembly for all staff and students took place at 8.45am to outline expectations and provide further guidance.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank parents, students and staff for their understanding and co-operation as we work to restore full service.”

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
