Have you heard the one about the chalkboard?

What do you do with a chalkboard that’s just sitting around the house? Well Sabrina Wilkinson had the answer – use it to tell jokes to brighten people’s days.

Almost every morning for the past few months, passers-by have been entertained to jokes such as – ‘Where do you take someone who was injured in a peek-a-boo accident? To the ICU’.

“It was something that I decided to do one day. I had the chalkboard sitting around the house and I decided to put it to good use by posting a new joke every day,” said Sabrina, who gets her jokes from different websites.

Here are a few of Sabrina Wilkinson’s jokes

“What did the rug say to the floor? Don’t move, I’ve got you covered.”

“Dad, can you explain what a solar eclipse is? No son.”

“Where do fish keep their money? In a river bank.”

“Why was the teacher’s eyes crossed? She couldn’t control her pupils.”

“What type of sandals do frogs wear? Open toad.”

Local resident Milen Simons often posts photos of the signs on Twitter as he passes by the home in the mornings.

He said: “Seeing the quotes give me a daily smile and it is something that I now look forward to.

“I have always appreciated the Johnny Barnes types of the world, the people who start their day by bringing joy to others. You never know when a small gesture can make a big impact.”

Mr Simons does not have one favourite joke in particular, but some of the best ones for him are the ones that make people think about the punchline for a while, such as: “What did Yoda say when he saw himself in 4K? HDMI.”

Ms Wilkinson, who lives near Sunnyside Park, in Southampton, said that a few neighbours had approached her and told her how much they liked the jokes.

She does not plan to stop doing this anytime soon. “I will keep doing this as long as I can find new material.”
