Lana Young film nominated for NAACP Image awards
A hit Netflix film co-starring Bermudian actress Lana Young has been nominated for several Image Awards, including outstanding ensemble, by the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People.
A Jazzman’s Blues was also nominated for the civil right group’s outstanding motion picture award, while the film’s star Joshua Boone was nominated for both outstanding actor and outstanding breakthrough performance.
Ms Young told The Royal Gazette: “I’m incredibly honoured to be nominated alongside such esteemed and talented peers.
“This whole experience has been career affirming in many ways and a gift that keeps on giving. I’m excited to share this experience with Bermuda and appreciate all the love and support I receive from everyone.”
The annual awards, scheduled to be held on February 25 and televised on BET, includes a public voting component with viewers able to support their choices online.
However, the film faces strong competition from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Till; The Woman King; and Emancipation in both the outstanding ensemble and outstanding motion picture categories.
A Jazzman’s Blues, described by Netflix as a “sweeping tale of forbidden love”, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 and was released on Netflix on September 23.
Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer and features songs arranged and produced by Grammy winning composer Terence Blanchard.
Ms Young plays Ethel, the mother of one half of the love-struck couple at the heart of the story, whose past threatens to unravel the couple’s future.
The actress also appears in the Fox show The Resident, in which she plays Mary Osder, and earlier this year appeared on the long-running show Law and Order as a judge.
