Gombey Festival postponed for second time

The 2023 Gombey Festival Showcase has been pushed back until next month over wet and windy weather forecasts.

The postponement, the second to impact the event, was announced by the Government this afternoon on social media.

The free event was originally scheduled to be held on October 7 at the Botanical Garden’s Main Show Ring, but the date was pushed back over concerns about the potential impact of Tropical Storm Philippe.

At the time, a spokeswoman for the Department of Culture said the annual event required significant resources and infrastructure, which cannot be set up in harsh weather.

Organisers had announced that the event would take place this Saturday, but the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport decided to push the event back to November 4 citing forecasts of inclement weather.

The Bermuda Weather Service forecast cloudy weather with a few showers, possibly heavy, clearing overnight, along with strong winds and gale-force gusts.
