PechaKucha presenters line up to share stories
Seven presenters will share “diverse perspectives and inspiring stories” at the latest PechaKucha Bermuda, which will take place this evening.
Doors open for the free event at the Bermuda Society of Arts, in City Hall at 7pm, and talks are expected to start at 7.30pm.
PechaKucha Bermuda, which uses the structure of 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide, said: “This edition promises an engaging evening featuring a diverse group of presenters, each bringing their unique perspectives and stories to the stage using the popular PechaKucha format.”
Aruna Dismont will deliver a presentation titled As The World Turns: Astrology, the Soap Opera of the Sky.
The organisation said the talk will offer "a crash course on astrology, delving into aspects often overlooked by pop culture“.
In Chairshots and Spandex: The Art of Storytelling Without Subtlety, Brock Noseworthy, a Newfoundlander, will argue that professional wrestling provides a medium for exciting and engaging stories.
Charlotte Shreeve, a Bermuda-based accountant, will deliver 2023: The year I got back into drawing and reflect on how pencil and charcoal drawing became not only a creative outlet but also a tool to calm her ADHD brain.
In The Power of Personal Change, Eugene Dean, a lifelong community activist, will challenge the notion that external forces dictate quality of life.
PechaKucha added: “Eugene emphasises the profound impact of personal growth and inner development, asserting that our journey towards positive change starts with individual empowerment.”
The organisation said: “Ligaya Sanchez-Wilson, a professional problem-solver, neurodiversity advocate, and passionate amateur photographer, presents A Tale of Two Whys.
“In this captivating talk, Ligaya shares a personal narrative that highlights the contrast between societal measures of success and self-fulfillment.
“Ligaya unravels the concept of ‘your why’ as a cornerstone for true success."
Michael Watson will present What is Compersion?, where he will talk about a “counterculture perspective on relationships and personal dynamics” in workplaces and intimate settings.
PechaKucha said: “Michael's international career in anatomy, movement and energy work has shaped a unique philosophy that emphasises the importance of touch and connection in healing.”
Rajai Denbrook, an educator, advocate and media personality, among other things, will present Beyond Likeability: Racial Ideology, Self-Actualisation and Black Masculinity.
PechaKucha Bermuda said: “Rajai embarks on a critical reflection on the ethical integrity and contemporary experience of racial ideology, including the limitations and illusions of the implicitly held expectations of public-presentation and embodiment as they pertain to the Black masculine in particular.”
Sponsors for the event include the Bermuda Society of Arts, the Chewstick Foundation, BDA Spirits and Makim Ori, a graphic designer.
