Collie Buddz misses out at 66th Grammy Awards
Bermudian musician Collie Buddz fell short at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday after he was nominated for Best Reggae Album of 2023.
Collie Buddz, whose real name is Colin Harper, and his album Cali Roots Riddim 2023 lost to Julian Marley and Antaeus’s collaborative album, Colors of Royal.
The artists ran up against Buju Banton with Born For Greatness, Beenie Man's Simma and Burning Spear's No Destroyer.
Despite the loss, Collie Buddz is likely to have made history by becoming the first Bermudian singer to receive a solo nomination in the category.
He also counted himself lucky to have been named among reggae royalty, such as Julian Marley, son of Bob Marley, and Buju Banton, who is regarded as one of the most significant artists in Jamaican music.
Collie Buddz told Rolling Stone before the event: “It’s weird to see my name with all the reggae legends, but I’ll take it.”
Collie Buddz released his self-titled debut album on June 7, 2007, which had his breakout singles Come Around and Blind to You.
He soon launched his own record label, Harper Digital Entertainment.
Collie Buddz has 12 studio and compilation albums, EPs and mixtapes, and 250 million views on his YouTube channel and 2.5 million monthly listeners of Spotify.
