The popular Bermuda Idol talent show rocked the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium on Saturday night.

Thirteen entrants entertained the audience at the event, which also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Black-owned broadcaster Inter-Island Communications.

The winner was Demara Maybury; Tyler-Ray Wilson was second; Chauntée Thompson was third; and Mikayla Ming won the Special Showmanship prize.

The talent show was launched to acclaim in 2004.

Glenn Blakeney, the head of Inter-Island — which turns 20 on July 5 — said it was a “grand success” with a packed audience and more than $12,000 in cash and prizes.

There was a $300 giveaway for the best home-made sign brought by an attendee.

Mr Blakeney added: "This demonstrates the company's unwavering service to the community and genuine support of the performing arts in Bermuda."

He thanked the audience for its patience, with a stop mid-performance when EMTs had to take an attendee to hospital for treatment.

Mr Blakeney said that the guest had recovered well.

The night began with video highlights of past Bermuda Idol performances.

“Thirteen contestants graced the stage singing their hearts out to the delight of the capacity crowd that stood, applauded, howled and screamed in support of their favourite performer,” said Mr Blakeney.

“The blue-ribbon panel of judges constructively critiqued all contestants after each performance.”

The top five were due to perform a second time in a “final sing-off” to decide the winner.

However, because of a tie, six contestants joined the sing-off: Chauntée Thompson, Savannah Darby, Tyler-Ray Wilson, Zoleah Frith, Demara Maybury and MiKhyla Ming.

Mr Blakeney said the competition was stiff.

“All six brought their A-game, which the audience vociferously appreciated.”

The 2023 Bermuda Idol winner Danyell Webbe performed before the title was to be handed to her successor.

Nikita Robinson and Bootsie declared the winners, with Ms Thompson receiving $1,500 at third, Mr Wilson receiving $2,500 at second and Ms Maybury taking the crown and grand prize of $5,000.

Sponsors providing door prizes were Mr Chicken; ATS LED Suppliers and Caesar’s Pharmacy; Lindo's Family Foods; Barritt's; Medical House; the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Orchid Nail Spa; Baptiste Ltd; Bermuda Healthcare Services; the Brown Darrell Clinic; Money Shop; Island Construction Services; and Exclusive Events.

Addition door prizes were provided by Strykz Bowling Lounge and BermudAir.
