Forecast of strong winds affects mural festival schedule
Organisers of an event that will bring together the work of island and international mural artists have amended plans owing to poor weather predicted for Saturday.
Bermuda Walls planned to host the “celebration of art, culture and community” in Hamilton on April 13 and 14.
A spokeswoman for the festival said this afternoon: “Please note, due to the poor weather forecast for the weekend, Bermuda Walls has made the decision to cancel Saturday's festivities.
“However, Sunday's festival will be extended and will now start at noon and finish at 5pm.
“Families are encouraged to witness the final touches being done on North East Hamilton's newest artworks, enjoy music, good food and games of all sorts on Sunday.”
The festival will feature the collaborative efforts of six local artists working with four esteemed international street artists.
Together, they will create new murals across the Butterfield & Vallis building on Woodlands Road and the streets of Hamilton.
A map of the new murals will be shared on the @BermudaWalls Instagram page ahead of the event.
The Bermuda Weather Service said on its public forecast this morning that showers were expected to start at about midday on Saturday, clearing in the evening.
It added that southerly winds will be moderate to strong with some gusts reaching gale force “especially in developing showers, veering westerly light to moderate in the late afternoon, then west-northwesterly late night”.
Sunday was forecast to have a mixture of sun and cloud, with light to moderate west-northwesterly winds.
