Sedona-Sky Duffy making professional debut on London’s West End
A young Bermudian will make her professional debut on the West End stage this month.
Sedona-Sky Duffy is to play high school senior Heather Duke in Heathers the Musical.
The 20-year-old, who is studying musical theatre at ArtsEd performing arts school in London, said she found out she had got a part in the show five days after she auditioned.
Ms Duffy is no stranger to the stage – she started dancing when she was 18 months old and has performed in many productions by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society and In Motion School of Dance, where she taught musical theatre summer camps.
While attending ArtsEd, she was in Sweet Charity and played Mimi Marquez in Rent.
Ms Duffy said: “Rent was my favourite for sure, it’s always been a dream show and role and I got to do it with my best friends so it was really special.
“What I love about performing is the live aspect, no audience is the same and no show is the same.
“Every day you get to experience new energies and new approaches to a show every night.”
Ms Duffy encouraged other aspiring actors and actresses to be disciplined and work hard.
She said: “I was not the kind of kid to go to all the birthday parties et cetera, because I spent a lot of my time dedicated to theatre and it has really paid off.
“Hard work is the most important part and you need to love it because if you don’t you’ll be miserable.”
Ms Duffy thanked members of Gilbert & Sullivan and teachers at In Motion, especially Annae Robinson, for helping her to get this far in her theatre career.
She explained: “Ms Robinson pushed me to be the best I could and she saw potential in me that I did not see.
“I owe a lot of where I am now to her and In Motion, they changed my life and without them I would not be performing on the West End at age 20.”
Based on a 1989 film, Heathers the Musical is about three girls named Heather who take high school student Veronica Sawyer under their wings.
The show will be performed at Soho Place in London from May 22 until July 6.
