A businesswoman who launched a clothing shop in St George earlier this year recalled her excitement when two personalities from the Oprah Daily team visited the store.

Roberta Munden said that Gayle King and Adam Glassman admired Boho Couture’s vibe when they arrived to film there.

She and business partner Jane Roberts officially opened the shop in May.

Oprah Daily was launched in 2021 as a “destination with thoughtful digital storytelling”, a quarterly print edition and a membership-only community, TV star Oprah Winfrey, the platform’s founder and editorial director, wrote on its website.

Editor-at-Large Ms King, who is a cohost of CBS Mornings, has been friends with the famous presenter for more than 40 years.

Mr Glassman is the creative director at Oprah Daily, where his work includes oversight of style and beauty content.

He and Ms King visited Boho Couture on June 27 to highlight the shop in a travel series on Bermuda.

Ms Munden knew that the business was to feature on some sort of programming but had no idea that it was Oprah Daily.

She said: “A local production company came into my store on the Friday and said that another company was doing a travel video on Bermuda, really liked my store, and wondered if they could come in and film inside.”

Ms Munden added: “On the Saturday, at around 9.30am the local gentleman came and said that Gayle and Adam would be there in 15 minutes.”

Her lack of significant reaction prompted the man to ask if she knew who he was talking about.

On divulging that it was Ms King from Oprah Daily, she “couldn’t believe it”.

Ms Munden said: “Ten minutes later Gayle and Adam showed up with an entire five-camera crew, hair, make-up and styling.

“They were in the shop for around 45 minutes — it was crazy.”

She added: “They really liked the look and feel of the shop.

“It has a very island feel and they thought it was eye-catching from both the outside and the inside.”

Ms Munden said: “We chatted about Cup Match.

“Gayle tried on a bunch of clothes, she bought two dresses and then gave her staff a card for all of them to purchase something as well.”

The businesswoman described the whole experience as “surreal” and said it was a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.

She highlighted how the feature was part of a broader conversation about Bermuda getting more exposure in US media.

Today Show hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager filmed a live set at The Loren in May and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake Cityfilmed on the island last year — the show’s season finale featured retailer The Things We Love.

Ms Munden noted how column inches and airtime could boost footfall.

She said that "media coverage is a huge part of business, and it definitely has helped my business”.

Ms Munden, who had yet to receive confirmation about when the feature was expected to run, added: “Once this airs, it will hopefully give us some international attention as well.”
