The Bermuda Philharmonic will join the Caledonian Society this weekend for a special concert paying tribute to the music of Scotland.

A Salute to the Highlands, to be performed at St John’s Church in Pembroke on Saturday and Sunday, will feature a range of traditional Scottish songs as well as songs that celebrate Scotland and its culture.

Kate Kayaian, the Bermuda Philharmonic Society president, said: “There is such a vibrant Scottish community here on the island.

“We share a deep love of music and the arts, as well as a desire to support the next generation.

“We’re so pleased that we are able to dedicate a portion of the weekend’s ticket proceeds to go towards the Caledonian Society’s Scholarship fund.”

As well as solos by Kirsten Z Cairns, a singer from Glasgow, and island guitarist Stephen Crawford, the concert will allow a number of students and scholarship winners the opportunity to play alongside the philharmonic society.

A spokeswoman said: “These outstanding students are given the chance to perform alongside professional players, giving them the experience of a lifetime.

“We are grateful to our brilliant collaborators as well as our private and corporate sponsors such as BermudAir for helping to bring in our overseas musicians to the island.”

A Salute to the Highlands will be performed at 7.30pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

Tickets are available at bermudaphilharmonic.org/events/ with reduced prices for students and seniors.
