‘First and best for Bermuda’: artist up again for Grammy
A second shot at the coveted Grammy Awards has come for Bermuda’s own Collie Buddz, who is among nominees in the reggae category.
It came after the artist, whose real name is Colin Harper, was put forward last year for his release Cali Roots Riddim.
Although he ultimately fell short at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Mr Harper now has his consecutive shot at the accolade, for his album Take It Easy.
The awards are scheduled for February in Los Angeles.
The nomination puts him in the running with reggae luminaries Vybz Kartel, Shenseea and The Wailers.
His father-in-law, Progressive Labour Party MP Zane DeSilva, once again declared his interest in the House of Assembly, telling MPs that for last year’s nomination, the artist had been “one of a team”.
Mr DeSilva added: “This year he has been nominated for a Grammy for his album alone, which is a huge feat.
“Last year was a first for Bermuda. This is definitely the first and best for Bermuda, so I congratulate my son-in-law.”
He told MPs: “I wish he would teach me how to understand some of the songs he sings, but maybe that will come in time.”
Mr Harper told the Jamaica Observer: “Younger me is smiling and getting jacked up on Capri-Suns.
“Congrats to all the nominees. What an honour to be amongst legends and such talent.”
