Soca versus Reggae returns after five-year hiatus
A major music festival will return this summer after a five-year hiatus.
Soca versus Reggae will bring the music back during the Cup Match holiday, with promises of an explosive revival of the decade-long tradition.
A spokesman for the show said: “This return promises to be momentous, as a team comprising Bermuda’s top postmillennial stage-show promoters and producers have assembled to bring all their considerable talents to SVR 2025.”
Soca versus Reggae, a popular music competition signifying the end of Cup Match, was put on hiatus for several years during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The show pits two DJs against each other as they play the Caribbean’s most popular music genres.
Judges and attendees determine the winner of the face-off after hours of back-to-back performances.
Organisers said this year’s event would feature five rounds.
The reggae side will have performances by Scoobay, King Jyrus, Willy Chin, Noah Powa and Polish, and Cham across the five rounds.
Mystro, Genius, Avalanche, International Stephen and Vghn will perform for Team Soca.
“Suffice it to say, this will be a knockdown, drag-out clash for the ages,” the event’s spokesman said.
“[It is] an emancipation celebration not to be missed — and the only place to be after the two-day summer spectacular that is Cup Match has ended on the pitch.”
Rowan Ramotar, of Wild Apache Productions, and Declan Harris, of Veterans in Action, have joined the SVR team to bring the event back to life.
They will also pay homage to the late Renalda Bean, a founding member of Soca versus Reggae, and have named the event’s VIP section in his honour.
Early-bird tickets will go on sale on April 1 and can be bought on the BermudaTix website.
A second tier of tickets will be available once early-bird tickets are sold out.
The festival will be held at Tiger Bay in St George’s on August 1.
