Bermudian gospel singer self-releases music video

A Bermudian gospel singer living in the US has released a music video for the single to her upcoming album.

Charmarie Virgin, 41, published Diamond on her YouTube channel at midnight on Wednesday after a year of production.

Ms Virgin said that the song illustrated her Christian faith and the role it played in her life.

She added: “I just feel like I’m doing what God has made me to do and I’m going to continue doing it.”

Diamond was released under her stage name, Charm, and had racked up 160 views on YouTube by midday yesterday.

Ms Virgin, who works as a preschool teacher in Atlanta, Georgia, said the single was her fourth original composition.

Unlike her other songs, which were characterised by a lighter acoustic sound, Diamond was inspired by “neo soul” and felt more emotional.

Ms Virgin explained: “It’s very emotional as far as the song itself.

“It’s about the character of God and the strength of God, so it’s more emotional for me and it’s a different kind of style.”

Ms Virgin created the music video with the help of her daughter, Jedaiylah Francis, who filmed the sequences involved.

She called the video a “family project” and added that she frequently collaborated with her daughter for her other music videos.

Ms Virgin said: “She’s always very intricate and she’s got a great eye for being able to catch things and frame a look.

“She’s been very integral in almost everything I’ve shot.”

Ms Virgin grew up around music.

Her father is John Woolridge, the writer of Proud to be Bermudian, who had a lot of influence on her music.

She acquired much of her knowledge of music production from her father while spending time in his studio, Just Platinum.

Ms Virgin said that the song was part of a longer album, also called Diamond, that she hoped to release in September.
