Bios officer aims to build local, overseas partnerships
The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences has appointed a new director of advancement, aimed at bolstering the scientific organisation’s work.
Bios said Rosemarie McMahon took the assignment at a key time for the research facility, in the wake of its integration with Arizona State University’s Global Futures Laboratory in 2021.
Dr McMahon holds a master of science degree in environmental management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, and a doctorate in science communication and visualisation from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich.
Bios said it was accelerating its efforts to tackle global environmental challenges through research, partnerships and educational programmes.
Dr McMahon’s background in international consulting and insurance firms tallies with her expertise in climate education and engagement, which Bios said would be “instrumental” as it builds corporate and community partnerships and donor engagement.
Bill Curry, the president and chief executive of Bios, said: “Rosemarie’s experience and leadership in both the corporate and scientific sectors make her a key addition to our team.
"Her vision and commitment to advancing sustainability will help shape the future of our institute."
