A young female harbour seal that arrived in Bermuda over the weekend died yesterday, according to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ).The pup, believed to be about nine months old, had lost half its body weight after crossing hundreds of miles of ocean, probably from New England.BAMZ were treating the exhausted animal with antibiotics and fluids, but it had refused to eat.Three harbour seals have reached Bermuda in the past two years. The seals are found in temperate and Arctic seas throughout the world, but their numbers have steadily increased along the US east coast since they were declared a protected species.
