Island’s low rainfall causes demand for water to soar

Water trucking services are straining this week as lower than average rainfall has dried water tanks across the Island.Yesterday, one local trucking service said that they were fully booked until Monday, with their phone ringing with additional requests every few minutes.“Online we are receiving around 20 a day, and we’re getting even more by phone,” said a representative for one service.“Our phone has been ringing every five minutes, and we cannot help everyone. We are fully booked up until Monday, and there are some very angry customers.“I have had to turn away so many needy people.”According to the Bermuda Weather Service, as of May 2 the Island had received only 11.7 inches of rain more than seven inches below normal for this time of year.By the same date last year, the Island had recorded 15.97in of rainfall. While a spokesman for the service said the Island could experience scattered showers by Thursday night, the rainfall would likely not make a significant impact.
