Wedco turns over land for a nature reserve

A plot of land in Dockyard was yesterday unveiled as a nature reserve by Wedco.The quango has spent the past 18 months clearing up the 4.2 acres with assistance from local charities.Called Lodge Point, the Craddock Road development was a residential area 15 years ago it became an illegal dumping ground once those properties were demolished. “This is a very happy day for us,” said Wedco Chairman Walter Lister.He said Wedco is working to preserve an additional 6.5 acres south of Craddock Road through to Lagoon Bridge.Public Works Minister Michael Weeks and Sandys North MP Michael Scott were present for yesterday’s unveil.“There have been many changes within Dockyard over the years but this initiative is one that ensures both current and future residents and visitors will have access to open spaces,” said Mr Weeks.Added Mr Scott: “[Lodge Point] will be a real add-on to the enjoyment of life in this community.”
