A large osprey was kept company by a smaller gull as it hunted for fish off the North Shore in Hamilton Parish yesterday morning. The bird of prey, a migratory visitor to the Island, feeds almost exclusively on fish and is an impressive hunter. With a wingspan of up to 6ft and exceptional eyesight, ospreys can spot potential prey from a great height.A gull followed the osprey along the coast, but kept its distance from the larger bird.During the past few weeks a number of ospreys have been seen in various locations around Bermuda. A juvenile brown pelican, a rare visitor to the Island, has been spotted fishing around Coney Island, also in Hamilton Parish, this week.
