Ministry declares e-waste recycling day a huge success
The Ministry of Public Works declared this month’s e-waste recycling day a huge success.Acting Material Recovery Officer Stephen Gilbert said 181 people attended the Tynes Bay Waste-to Energy Facility on March 9 to drop off electronic waste for recycling.Items collected through the initiative, like microwaves, flashlights and computer equipment, are shipped to a facility in Pennsylvania where they are dissembled and sorted to collect and recover metal.In 2011/12, the Waste Management Section filled and exported 17 20ft shipping containers of material for recycling.Mr Gilbert said the number of people taking part in e-waste recycling drives have grown since the initiative began on the Island.For more information about waste disposal, visit www.wastemanagement.gov.bm or the “What Goes Where” section of the BTC Phone Book’s blue pages.
