Anyone interested in Greenrock’s Eco-schools programme can have all their questions answered tomorrow.

The charity is hosting a resource fair at Warwick Academy and those keen to learn about the programme can attend between 4pm and 6pm.

Participating schools and eco-committee members will be able to help school awareness, projects and campaigns, relevant to their field of expertise.

Abbie Caldas, Greenrock’s schools programme manager, described the event as “an opportunity to empower students further as they learn how what they’re working on relates practically in the real world”.

“They will need these skills in whatever role they take in the future,” she added. “All our partners are committed to assisting schools in their relevant areas.

“I’m really excited to see the students connect with community members.”

Delegates from Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Bermuda Environmental and Sustainability Taskforce, Positive Solutions Ltd and representatives from Bermuda Government departments such as waste management, conservation services, parks, energy, health and sustainable development will attend.

Mrs Caldas said: “These are members of the community who are keen to see young people lead the way in being the change our sustainable world needs.”

As they work to transform their schools, participants are reminded that they do not need to have all the answers, just to know where to seek them.

Schools are also encouraged to select one environmental focus at a time to enable a strong focus and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

The Eco-schools programme serves 15 schools, reaching more than 5,000 students and staff.

Visitors should expect to see representatives from Somersfield Academy, Stepping Stones Preschool, Bermuda College, Elliot Primary, West Pembroke Primary, Victor Scott Primary, Prospect Primary, Heron Bay Primary, Dalton E. Tucker Primary, Sandys Middle School, Whitney Institute, Impact Mentoring Academy, Lyceum Preschool and Warwick Academy.

Last June, two schools were awarded the international accreditation and ‘Green Flag,’ with four reaching the level one milestone of a ‘Green Seed’ Award.

Greenrock hosted a student networking conference in November last year, when all student participants had the opportunity to connect with their peers, share advice and inspiration on how to address these challenges and make an impact in their schools and the community.
