Bermuda Triangle explored at BUEI
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute celebrated its 20th anniversary this week by announcing that a new Bermuda Triangle exhibition is in the works.
Guests were invited to the event on Tuesday evening where the BUEI’s general exhibition space was officially named the Ocean Discovery Centre with a ribbon-cutting by Governor John Rankin.
A gift from Odyssey Marine Exploration, for which the late former premier David Saul was a board director, was also unveiled at the celebratory event: a port hole from the shipwreck SS Republic.
BUEI’s head of education Crystal Schultz thanked her fellow trustees as well as staff, volunteers, donors and advocates for their commitment to fulfilling BUEI’s mission and vision to “advance the understanding, appreciation and knowledge of the ocean and to encourage the protection and preservation of the marine environment”.
Ms Schultz was honoured on the night for her 20 years’ service to the institute.
A short film was screened highlighting BUEI’s educational programmes including interviews with the young students.
There was a brief mention of the highly anticipated Bermuda Triangle interactive exhibition, which is due to be completed by the end of the year as well as BUEI’s newest exhibit the Blue Echo fly and dive simulation.
On Monday, July 31, BUEI will open its doors to the public for an open house.
Guests can enjoy free admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre from 10am to 5pm, with the last admission at 4pm.
