Hundreds hone their gardening skills
A Cabinet minister and the Governor attended a workshop designed to help people start home gardens.
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, and John Rankin attended the Grow, Eat, Save session led by Chaplain Kevin Santucci.
More than 300 people have completed the programme since it was introduced by the Department of Health two years ago.
The eight-week workshop was created to encourage residents to start home gardens.
Two farmers joined the group as guest presenters for the class last Thursday.
Norwood Salaam explained how to transplant vegetables and Steven Douglas provided information on the right way to plant cassava.
Claire Jessie, from the Department of Environment, recently gave a lesson on how to control common garden pests and insecticides.
A Government spokeswoman said: “At the completion of this workshop, the 50 participants will have gained further knowledge and hands-on skills on how to plant and how to prepare a garden.”
The next Grow, Eat, Save will be offered in September, for more information please e-mail nutrition@gov.bm or call 278-6467 or 278-6469.
