Red Cross joins climate change fight

The Bermuda Red Cross will launch a new initiative to help mitigate the growing threat of climate change.

A spokeswoman for the charity said it intends to provide education and community outreach on the subject of climate change resilience, taking advantage of networks created for its disaster risk reduction programme.

The spokeswoman said: “It is anticipated that a number of virtual presentations and other outreach activities will be needed to educate the community at large of the scope of the climate change and its specific impacts on Bermuda.

“We are in discussion with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and other interested parties towards more collaboration on this outreach.”

She added that QBE Insurance Group has pledged to assist in the venture, which will utilise data collected as part of the recently announced Climate Change Impacts Report.
