Belco workers have taken to the water to lay underground cables to the East End.

The company said this month that the cable route runs from Hamilton Parish near the west end of the Coney Island Road bridge, across Grotto Bay, exiting the water on Kindley Field Road at Stone Crusher Corner in St George’s parish.

A comprehensive environmental impact assessment on the proposed route for the cables was carried out by the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) to ensure that the cable placement would not disrupt the seabed ecosystem.

Last week, the work involved laying subsea cables from Coney Island to Stone Crusher Corner.

The second phase involves laying subsea cables in the Stokes Point crossing area and was due to start yesterday.
