New LED lighting at the NSC will cut power bill

Going green: Phase two of the floodlights switch to energy-efficient LED on the North Field is 75 per cent complete, and work on the Flora Duffy Stadium South Field lights is expected to start in September (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

An ongoing project for lighting to go green at the National Sports Centre will come with a significant cost savings on its electricity bills.

James Pace, facilities manager at the Devonshire centre, said the installation of LED lighting should be completed by the year’s end.

The energy-efficient lighting illuminates the facility at less cost and will not require the electricity-intensive start-up of the old incandescent floodlights.

Mr Pace said work on the North Field lighting was expected to wrap up by the end of the month.

The lights, which will move on to the South Field next, should come with a similar look to the old lighting.
