One of the older residents of the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo is still going strong after decades on the island.

According to BAMZ, Oscar the American alligator has lived comfortably in Bermuda for more than 40 years.

Oscar was sent to a new life here after he was deemed a pest in a Florida neighbourhood.

Arriving at the end of the 1980s with two other alligators, Oscar was given a solitary life after he kept fighting with the other male over the lone female.

At about 12ft and roughly 400lb, Oscar spends much of his time submerged in his enclosure at the Flatts zoo, moving seldom except for occasional meals.

Oscar enjoys a diet of feral chickens every couple of weeks — but his eating schedule quietens over the winter as the reptile’s metabolism slows during cooler weather.
