Latest environmental statistics released
An updated compendium of Bermuda statistics has been released by the Ministry of Economy and Labour.
The 2022 Environmental Statistics Compendium, created by the Department of Statistics, includes a range of figures, tables and graphs highlighting a range of data about the island.
A ministry spokesman said: “This publication is an excellent tool for research, school projects and promoting awareness about issues affecting Bermuda’s environment.”
Some of the 2020 to 2021 findings include:
• The number of reported environmentally related diseases, such as acute bronchitis and gastroenteritis, decreased by 2.3 per cent from 2,918 to 2,852.
• The total volume of precipitation increased by 15.4 per cent.
• Total fish landings totalled 359.5 metric tonnes in 2021, an increase of 24.1 per cent from the previous year. Species such as tunas, groupers, jacks and snappers accounted for the most landed fish in 2021.
• In 2021, total electricity consumption increased by 0.9 per cent to approximately 523 million kWh from 518 million kWh in 2020. Residential customers were responsible for 47 per cent of the total electricity consumption in 2021.
