Azura neighbours holding town hall meeting
Residents in the area surrounding the Azura and Nautilus development on the South Shore in Warwick are to hold a public meeting tonight over what they call the “destructive impact” of continuing construction.
Atlantic Hotel has defended its project as tourism development approved by the Department of Planning.
The company said yesterday: “At both Azura and Nautilus, we only do things allowed by Bermuda law and planning regulations, and we are always open to dialogue and input from neighbours.
“Unfortunately, it is not always possible to provide any person, including neighbours, with everything they may wish.
“We can only do our best to be good neighbours, and we certainly do that.”
Residents spoke to The Royal Gazette in August over the impact of construction on their homes surrounding the Azura and Nautilus complex.
The project combines condominiums and tourism units.
Bob Richards, a former deputy premier who lives to the west of the development, said the meeting, at 6pm in the Seventh-day Adventist Church on South Shore Road, was open to the public.
“There has been more construction proposed on the brow of the hill, and because of the area’s topology, most of the construction cannot be seen from South Road,” he said.
“But it is extensive and people need to know about it. We cannot do much about what’s already there, but what’s proposed, we think, is kind of outrageous.”
Mr Richards said a block of proposed condos could extend to a height of four storeys and raised issues with parking — already squeezed at the development.
Dyrone Minors, another resident who claimed construction vibrations damaged his home, said: “The local community will be in attendance, and we have reached out to people farther than Warwick to come.“
