Bermuda National Trust to host auction and jumble sale
The Bermuda National Trust is planning its annual auction and jumble sale for late February and early March to raise funds for natural and cultural heritage programming.
The trust will receive jumble on February 25 from 1pm to 4pm, February 26 from 8.30am to 6.30pm and on February 27 from 8.30am to noon.
BNT requests that donations be dropped off at the Jack King Building and the Commercial Slat House in the Botanical Gardens, where both the jumble and auction sale will take place.
The jumble sale will take place on February 29 from 8.30am to 6.30pm and from March 1 from 8.30am to 2pm. Items can be viewed during the jumble sale.
“Jumble are any kind of unwanted household items that are still in good condition. This can be household electronics, anything from your kitchen, any decorative items from your household. Books, toys, carpets, pillows, drapes, picture frames — all of those items,” said Dorte Horsfield, the trust’s head of development and engagement.
BNT is looking for donations of everything but clothing.
Dr Horsfield said: “The BNT Auction and Jumble sale is the ideal reason to start your spring clean-out early and pass on items you no longer need.”
“We will have 200 items, and they will range from antique, art, silver, china — you never know. Last year, somebody gave us an entire collection of beautiful African animals made out of stone and wood carvings. There is always something different and unexpected,” Dr Horsfield said.
This year’s auction will be held on March 2, beginning at 10am. Auction items have not been decided yet, but “will feature high-quality antiques and Bermudiana”.
Dr Horsfield added: “This is one of our major fundraisers for our important work of preserving natural and cultural heritage in Bermuda.
“It’s a big community event as much as fundraiser because we always have new volunteers, volunteers that then become members and people just realising how important the national trust is for everybody in Bermuda.”
