The Shed in Dockyard was packed with people yesterday as hundreds came out to enjoy the Living Green Expo.

Dozens of vendors took part in the event, organised by Greenrock to highlight environmentally friendly products and services.

Eugene Dean, the Greenrock chairman, said he was impressed by the turnout and the public interest in the event.

“People were here before we opened, so it was a good thing that we told the vendors to be ready early,” he said.

“We are very thankful that people have come out to support this event. It really reaffirms how important these topics are, living naturally and living sustainably.

“We are also extremely thankful for the beautiful weather we got. That has played a huge role because you could not find a better day to spend in Dockyard.”

The day’s activities started with a five-kilometre walk and run, a 25km bike ride from Hamilton, as well as yoga and qigong.

“There is a lot of information and the vendors are very appreciative of the exposure that they are getting,” he added. “Every time we cross vendors they say how great this is.

“It’s also not just what we have been doing today. In the lead-up there has been a lot of publicity for the vendors. It has really been great exposure.”

A wide range of wares were spotlighted at the event including solar panels, health products and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Marta Olander, of Hideaway Farms, said she was excited to be able to show off some of the produce that they had to offer.

“People seem happy to see our garden vegetables and talk about what we are doing,” she said.

“A lot of people here don’t know about us because we are at the other end of the island in St George’s. They may hear about us but we are happy to be here and tell them about us and our produce.”

At a nearby table, Jahqueen’s Variety offered attendees a variety of essential oils.

Jahqueen, the business’s owner, said: “It’s beautiful. It is a great day for an event like this. It’s lovely to see the people coming out and seeing all the products.

“I haven’t had a chance to go around and check out everyone else yet but the atmosphere is incredible.

“People are coming out and meeting new people, people are socialising. It’s the best of Bermuda.”

Dylan Moore was surprised at how many people had come out for the event.

“It really is pretty cool to see folks with a shared interest in sustainability out and about,” he said. “It really goes to show how much this is in the present mindset on the island.

“There’s good food, there’s live music. People have their dogs out. It’s a good time.”
