BUEI to celebrate World Water Day
The importance of drinking water will be on full display this Saturday with an educational open house.
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will observe World Water Day this weekend with an array of activities for all ages.
It will include a one-hour presentation by the Bermuda Youth Delegation in the Tradewinds Auditorium at 12.30pm.
The presentation, Ignite Change, Amplify Potential, will underscore the delegation’s sustainable-development goals and solutions.
Hands-on activities will include a “follow the water drop” game and a bottle cap art station in the BUEI’s lower lobby and education centre.
Attendees can also share their ideas for water conservation as water drops in an “idea cloud” in the main lobby, as well as learn about Bermuda’s water supply.
The celebrations will also take place in tandem with the BUEI’s monthly Kids Hour Saturday, aimed at youngsters aged between 5 and 12, at 11am and 2pm.
Children will be shown the short films Water Water Everywhere, which will look at the science of water, and The Story of Bottled Water, which looks at the level of waste created by plastic water bottles.
Two picture books will also be read.
Drop: An Adventure Through the Water Cycle, by Emily Kate Moon, will follow Drop: An Anthropomorphic Water Droplet, on a journey through the water cycle.
Watch Over Our Water, by Lisa Bullard, part of BUEI’s Planet Protectors series, shows youngsters how they can best protect the environment.
Celebrations will raise awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No 6 — ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.
It takes place from 10.30am to 2.30pm, and caregivers must stay on site at all times.
