BZS to hold lecture on waste management

The Tynes Bay incinerator on North Shore

Two environmental officials will give insights into the island’s waste management programme at a lecture next month.

Zoey Roberts, a health, safety and environmental officer at the Tynes Bay waste-to-energy facility, and Vanese Gordon, a government waste enforcement officer, will explore the topic on May 1 from 7pm, the Bermuda Zoological Society said.

Ms Roberts and Ms Gordon will also provide insights into their respective roles.

The BZS said they will highlight that waste management is not “one size fits all” and ways in which consumers can avoid “greenwashing”.

Greenwashing occurs when a firm makes a false environmental claim intended to promote a sense of environmental impact.

The BZS said the event was free — but that a donation of $10 would be gratefully received.

Anyone interested in attending the event can register online.
