Landscape architect to hold lecture on plant sustainability
A talk about plant sustainability and lessons that can be applied to the Botanical Gardens will be held this month.
Danny Simmons, a landscape architect, will deliver the lecture on May 28 at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.
The talk, titled Big Lessons for the Bermuda Botanical Gardens, will highlight insights and opportunities for the island that came out of February’s 2024 Botanical Bridges Congress in Cartagena, Colombia.
Nick Coelho, a micro forest officer for the Bermuda Zoological Society; Trevor Rawson, the BZS Trunk Island conservation officer; and Jessica Carvalho, an assistant park planner, joined Mr Simmons at the event in February.
The congress was aimed at fostering collaboration among botanical gardens across the world. It was also designed to bring together communities and research centres in the Caribbean and Central American region to develop comprehensive, long-term plant conservation strategies.
The congress was attended by 120 people representing 48 institutions from 25 countries.
The lecture this month will run from 7pm to 8.30pm and is free, but a $10 donation will be gratefully received.
